Interactive Sales Guide

Background

Indigo Slate supported the development of an interactive PowerPoint guide to be used by retail pros to learn about Microsoft Accessory's products by pillar and understand product features, benefits, and specifications.

My role

As the lead designer on this account for nearly a year, I onboarded the creative director and junior designer. My creative director came from a content and copywriting background, so I developed the visual design strategy and presented conceptual pitches and design work directly to the client and representatives from third-party retailers. After the initial ideation phase, I assisted with implementation and provided feedback and guidance to the junior designer to ensure visual polish and address potential usability issues together.

Early discussion materials

motion approach thumbnails for moving from section to product detail screens.
Imagery use approach slide. utilize more human imagery in high-level screens with product images when talking about products

Outcomes

At the end of the project, we produced over 60 unique slides with limited, yet smooth, animation. Our client was thrilled with the approach, and our simplified version of the presentation provided third-party retailers with the flexibility to localize copy for use outside of North America without having animation issues.

Reflection

This project was easily one of the most ambitious uses of PowerPoint I’ve ever worked on. The visual design was elegant, provided information in a digestible manner, and provided me with a deeper understanding of the tools available in PowerPoint. While I appreciate the quality we achieved, I would personally not propose anything this robust if I were presented with this task again. Instead, I'd advise an even simpler approach to motion given that web development was not an option.
