A webpage adaption of 'Reasons You Weren't Promoted That Are Totally Unrelated to Your Gender' by Homa Mojtabai.
Design and develop a single-page responsive website for a McSweeney’s article of choice, using HTML and CSS for a course project.
Create a webpage that references the visual style of "our team" pages as a way to visualize the list items within the article.
Following some initial research into competitor websites and methods of storytelling for articles, I presented three concepts with three variations to my classmates for review.
- Concept 1 (C1): Examine how superiors are perceived as a result of the reasons they give. Mimic yearbook layouts, and insert handwritten commentary on hover.
- Concept 2 (C2): Show criticism a woman might receive throughout her career. List items would be rearranged to match life changes.
- Concept 3 (C3): Scrolling down will cause two list items to move vertically in opposite directions. Meeting at the center of the page will highlight the inconsistent logic behind these reasons.
Following our final concept critique, I contacted my peers and scheduled photo shoots. Participants were instructed to dress business casual and took a variety of photos ranging from serious to humorous.
